The riverside half of the 180 Quarter now has its hotel: studios with a boudoir, lofts with their own kitchens, a café and a bar that stays open until 03:00, and a penthouse laid for twelve.
St. Clement is a new hotel at 180 The Thames, the river-facing half of the city block that also holds 180 The Strand, at WC2R 2NF. It is reported to be the first hotel from Nick Jones, the founder of Soho House, since he stepped down as that company’s chief executive in 2022, and to have taken its first overnight guests on 24 September after a soft opening over the summer. The hotel’s own pages give no opening date. They describe a hotel still opening in stages, with a restaurant on Level 11 and a pool yet to come.
On the footprint of Arundel House
180 The Thames places itself on the footprint of the 17th-century Arundel House, the estate of an art collector it describes as a patron of Rubens. The neighbour is the Brutalist 180 The Strand, home to 180 Studios, which the operator calls the official hub for London Fashion Week and the base of more than 140 creative companies. Together the two buildings make up what the developer calls the 180 Quarter.
St. Clement is the hospitality half of that plan, and 180 The Thames describes it as “a refined, new version of the luxury hotel that London needs”. Alongside it in the quarter are Alex Eagle Studio, for fashion, art and home, and Corner Shop, a grocer, baker, café and wine bar.
Studios with a boudoir, lofts with a kitchen
The room list starts with bedrooms of 484 sq ft, each with an open-plan lounge. The studios run to 700 sq ft, with a bedroom, a boudoir area and an adjoining lounge, and the River Studios sit on floors 3 to 9 facing the Thames. Each River Studio carries a stretching kit, a bespoke medicine cabinet, Perfumer H bathroom products and a Bang & Olufsen speaker.
The River Lofts are apartments in all but name: one to three bedrooms, from 1,292 to 2,153 sq ft, each with a fitted kitchen and a terrace over the river. 180 The Thames credits Eagle + Hodges with designing its River Lofts as adaptable spaces.
A café from 07:00 and a bar until 03:00
Café Clement is the hotel’s all-day café and bar from the chef Danny Bohan, with a south-facing terrace and garden seating. It opens at 07:00 every day. Bobbi’s Bar takes over late and stays open until 03:00.
Two parts of the hotel are still to come. Lunette, a restaurant from Florence Knight on Level 11, is listed as opening this autumn. The Health Club, a 25,000 sq ft medical, fitness and wellness space, has opened its gym, and its 25-metre pool and spa are marked as coming soon.
Dinner for twelve above the river
The River Penthouse is the hotel’s largest room and the one built for company. It takes the ninth and tenth floors. The lower level holds two bedrooms, an open-plan living room, a separate chef’s kitchen and a dining table for twelve. A spiral staircase climbs to the top floor, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a wraparound terrace that the hotel describes as made for entertaining.
The sound system is designed by Devon Turnbull, and the stay includes a personal butler, a complimentary bar and transfers to and from London’s airports. For larger gatherings, the hotel lists private parties as opening from September, without publishing a room or a capacity. For now, the twelve seats at the penthouse table are the only dining figure St. Clement gives.
