Venues in North Greenwich

North Greenwich is not a street plan but a loop of river. The Thames curls around 150 acres of former industrial land for 1.6 miles, which is why the peninsula reads as one site rather than a neighbourhood, and why almost everything on it has been built to a single plan since 2013. It is the largest regeneration project London has undertaken, running on a thirty-year timetable toward some 17,000 homes and 34,000 residents. Canary Wharf sits directly across the water.

The O2 is what the peninsula is known for. It opened in 2007, is owned and operated by AEG, and reaches its twentieth year in 2027 with a summer of residencies and one-off shows to mark it. The arena seats between 800 and 20,000 depending on the layout, and the building also holds indigo at The O2, fourteen en-suite dressing rooms, premium lounges and the climb over the roof. Its hire product is worth naming plainly: conferences, awards ceremonies and gala dinners at that scale, sold to companies rather than to private hosts.

Around it, the peninsula has grown a cultural quarter that has little to do with the arena. Design District, a minute from the station, is London’s first permanent home for the creative industries, built as sixteen individual buildings rather than one block. NOW Gallery has shown free exhibitions since 2014, and Canteen gathers six kitchens and a bar under one roof. Access is unusually good for somewhere this far east: the Jubilee line runs to North Greenwich, Uber Boat by Thames Clippers calls at the pier, and the cable car crosses the river to the Royal Docks.
