/ About

Kinz occupies a 1930s former Lloyds Bank on Notting Hill Gate, a Sir Edward Maufe design whose restrained stone elegance the restaurant has kept and warmed. It is the work of Rasha Khouri Bruzzo, of the Palestinian restaurant Akub, with the brothers Jad and Karim Lahoud, and it takes its name from the Arabic word for treasure. The kitchen runs all day: a full Lebanese breakfast gives way to mezze at lunch and sharing plates of kafta, warak enab and fattet aubergine at dinner.

The room is the draw. Behind a teal-fronted ground-floor deli, the old banking hall opens into a triple-height space lit by an oversized wine-red lantern, its walls in Roman plaster and its floor stone-flagged, with striped banquettes and slender iron chairs arranged as if around a courtyard. A mezzanine, reached past screens of coloured seeded glass inspired by Beirut metalwork, looks down over it all, an ochre bar at its far end. The bank's vault survives as a wine room, low-lit around a single tasting table.

For private events the third-floor dining room seats sixteen, the mezzanine holds forty seated or sixty standing, and the whole restaurant takes up to 130. Lebanese menus are built to the occasion, and the bar's cocktails carry the same Levantine accent as the kitchen.
