/ About

Julie's has held the same corner of Portland Road since 1969, when the designer Julie Hodgess of BIBA opened it at Clarendon Cross. It spent five decades as the room Notting Hill's fashion and music people ate in late, and the corner table long associated with Mick Jagger is still there. The restaurant closed at the end of 2022 and reopened in May 2024 under Tara MacBain, a Holland Park resident, as a French brasserie.

Chef Patron Owen Kenworthy, previously at Brawn and The Pelican, cooks an all-day carte, and a martini trolley works the floor. There are 160 covers across three levels: a ground-floor dining room and bar under patterned wallpaper and brass sconces, a terrace on the pavement outside, and a lower ground floor whose interiors Rosanna Bossom designed in red velvet, antiqued mirror and ikat. A piano sits beside the shell-set bar.

For private events the lower ground floor is the room to take. It carries its own bar and a surround sound system, seats forty or holds fifty standing, and closes off from the restaurant above. The Private Dining Room, behind its own entrance, takes twenty around one table under a tented ceiling, and the curtained alcoves downstairs suit smaller parties. The whole house is available on a full hire basis.
