Arjun Waney opens Osteria Panzano on William Street

Steaks over open coals and a Tuscan cheese and salumi shop bring the Chianti village of Panzano to Belgravia, in the first Italian restaurant from the founder of Zuma.

Panzano is a hill village between Florence and Siena, known for its butchers and its vineyards. Arjun Waney, who has a home in Tuscany, is bringing its osteria to Belgravia. Osteria Panzano will open at 10-12 William Street, a few steps from Hyde Park Corner, and it was reported to open on 27 November.

Arjun Waney’s Tuscan osteria

Waney’s restaurants include Zuma, Coya, La Petite Maison and The Arts Club, and Panzano was reported as his first Italian. He calls it personal: it brings the food and wine of the Chianti countryside to the London neighbourhood he calls home. Some of its produce was reported to come from his Tuscan estate.

The restaurant describes the village osteria as a place where neighbours gather, plates are shared and lunch runs at its own pace. It takes the site that was Noura, and it is already taking reservations.

A Tuscan head chef, named so far only as Paolo, will run a seasonal kitchen of handmade pasta and regional dishes. Whole fish and well-aged steaks will be cooked over open coals. Early reports named cacio e pepe with black truffle, yellowfin tuna tartare with avocado, and roast turbot with braised herb potatoes among the first dishes.

A cheese and charcuterie shop will sell Tuscan salumi and regional cheeses, to eat at the table or to take home.
