Jeff Tan brings Han & Han to St Barnabas Street

2 min read

A Peking duck dry-aged for 36 hours and a tea room below the dining room are the first details of the Belgravia restaurant from the chef who opened Hakkasan Mayfair.

Jeff Tan set up the kitchen at Hakkasan Mayfair when it opened in 2010, and by his own account it won a Michelin star nine months later. His next room is much smaller. Han & Han Dining Room by Jeff Tan is coming to St Barnabas Street in Belgravia, and it is reported to open in November, though the restaurant has published no date.

The name joins two Hans. One is Tan’s own, since his full name is Jeff Tan Seng Han, and the other is reported to be his mother’s surname.

The cooking is reported as modern Chinese built on classical technique, led by the season. The first dishes named are a Peking duck dry-aged for 36 hours, served with black truffle pancakes made in house, and wild seabream in the Teochew style. Braised pumpkin with dried shrimp roe and Shanghai-style braised wheat gluten are also on the list.

The address is reported to be the former Roussillon. The restaurant is reported to seat about 40 across two floors, with a dining room at street level and a tea room and private dining room below.

From Hakkasan to Madrid

Tan started cooking in Malaysia and worked in Singapore, at Crystal Jade Palace and the Conrad Centennial, before he joined Hakkasan on Hanway Place in 2004. After Mayfair he set up Yuan at Atlantis The Palm in Dubai.

Back in London he founded GO, which the Michelin Guide selected from 2018 to 2021. In Madrid he opened Baoli in 2023, and the Michelin Guide Spain recommended it that July.
