Big Mamma brings 1930s Milan to Lombard Street

3 min read

Edmondo, the group’s first restaurant in the City, models a Grade II listed building by Bank on a Portaluppi villa in Milan, with a 1.2kg Fiorentina and white truffle from the Apennines.

Piero Portaluppi designed the Villa Necchi Campiglio in Milan, and Big Mamma has taken it as the model for its new City restaurant. Emerald curtains, a central bar and an open kitchen counter will fill a Grade II listed building at 6 Lombard Street, a few steps from Bank. Edmondo opens on 6 November.

A Portaluppi villa on Lombard Street

Edmondo is Big Mamma’s seventh London restaurant and its first in the Square Mile. The group calls the look 1930s Milanese glamour. It will seat 200 across a series of rooms arranged around a large central bar, with the main floor facing the open kitchen counter.

Tigrane Seydoux and Victor Lugger founded the group in 2015. Several of its London rooms are set in a decade, Barbarella in Canary Wharf in the 1970s and Ave Mario in Covent Garden in the 1980s. Edmondo goes back to the 1930s.

Three rooms behind emerald curtains

The curtains divide the dining room from three private rooms, each decorated its own way. La Libreria, styled as an Art Deco racing club, has Italian columns and a collection of Enzo Ferrari memorabilia. Il Salotto is lined with heritage-listed timber panelling and furnished with mid-century seating.

Il Ridotto, the most secluded, is modelled on the discreet salons of historic Italy. The two smaller rooms seat 10 each and Il Ridotto 24, and the whole restaurant can be taken for up to 200.

Chef Alfonso’s menu

Alfonso, the chef, will cook behind the open kitchen. The group builds the menu on oversized focaccia, fresh pasta made each day, langoustine risotto and the largest steak selection it has offered. The Fiorentina is a 1.2kg T-bone, dry-aged for 28 days and served for the table.

Fettuccine comes with fresh white truffle, and green gnocchi with Gorgonzola from Gelmini. Spaghetti alle vongole and paccheri with Bolognese ragù sit beside them. To start there is crudo di pesce with citrus and chives, or Cornish crab with crostini and endive, and the grill also does Roman scottadito di agnello and turbot in beurre blanc.

Big Mamma buys direct from named producers. Buffalo mozzarella comes from Caseificio delle Rose, made daily by Salvatore Corso’s family outside Naples, and 36-month Prosciutto di Parma from Luigi Devodier. Caseificio Gennari has made the Parmigiano Reggiano since 1953.

Alfredo Romani chooses the white truffle in the Apennines. The beef is grass-fed and dry-aged, from the Cornish butchers at Philip Warren.

Maestra Ilaria will run the bar. Her Nocino Old Fashioned and a Tris di Espresso Martini lead the cocktails, and the wine list is Italian.

Edmondo opens on 6 November 2026. Lunch set menu from £18, Monday to Friday from 11:30 to 15:30; T-bone Fiorentina for the table £140; white truffle fettuccine £29. Christmas group menus £62 and £72 per person.
