Lodge d’Argent’s chalets return for a last winter at Bank

2 min read

Two private chalets in the roof garden at No. 1 Poultry, with Grey Goose cocktails and a whole baked cheese, see Coq d’Argent through its final winter above the Bank of England.

This is the last winter Coq d’Argent spends on the roof of No. 1 Poultry. The restaurant moves to its new home at One Millennium in 2027, and before it goes it has put its two Alpine chalets back in the garden above the Bank of England. Each one takes a party of up to eight, with blankets, Grey Goose cocktails and a cheese baked whole.

Two chalets in the roof garden

Lodge d’Argent opened on 2 November and stays until New Year’s Eve. The restaurant calls it French après-ski in the City. Each chalet is a small private room in the garden, set with warm blankets, and one party books it whole.

Coq d’Argent has been on this roof since the late 1990s. Its gardens and terraces cover the top of No. 1 Poultry and face the Bank of England, and the dining room inside is a Conran design with a classic French menu.

The Chalet Package

The package is ordered ahead, when the chalet is booked or before the party arrives, and it is made for eight. It brings a bottle of Louis Pommery English sparkling wine and six Grey Goose cocktails. The food is Alpine and French: a whole baked cheese with sourdough croutons, a charcuterie platter with cornichons, serrano ham croquettes and a wild mushroom tartiflette tartlet.

Two crispy chicken Kievs with parsley and garlic butter come with it. So do honey and mustard cocktail sausages in red wine sauce, mozzarella and truffle arancini, olives, and two bowls of fries with black truffle mayonnaise.

A party that would rather choose on the night orders from the chalet’s own à la carte list instead. It has sharing plates, the seasonal cocktails and winter warmers.

There are five cocktails, and every one starts with Grey Goose vodka. The first mixes it with calvados, vanilla and caramelised apple, which makes it the closest of the five to a drink at a ski lodge. Another adds Champagne and spices and finishes with a clementine twist.

The third is long: mirabelle and rosemary, honey, lemon and soda, with a slice of plum. The last two are built on wine. One takes fortified wine with olives and sage, and the other white wine with orange blossom honey, orange bitters, spices and bay leaf.

The chalets close on the restaurant’s last night at No. 1 Poultry. On New Year’s Eve Coq d’Argent serves four courses, and a DJ, dancing and fireworks at 00:00 see in 2027 from the roof.

Lodge d’Argent runs from 2 November to 31 December 2026. The Chalet Package is £350 for up to eight; cocktails £15 to £18. A discretionary 15 per cent service charge is added.
