The Melbourne group whose Since I Left You defined plunderphonics bring a catalogue built from thousands of samples to the Roundhouse's Main Space for two November nights.
The Avalanches, the Melbourne group behind Since I Left You, play the Roundhouse’s Main Space in Chalk Farm on Friday 6 November and Friday 27 November 2026. Both nights are billed as The Avalanches & Friends.
The group grew in 1997 out of a noise-punk band called Alarm 115, whose members bought old vinyl by the crate. Robbie Chater and Darren Seltmann turned those records into a demo, and a live line-up with Tony Di Blasi formed to play it.
Since I Left You arrived in 2000 after long delays to clear its samples. It became the defining record of plunderphonics, music assembled from fragments of other records, and won six Australian Dance Music Awards.
Wildflower followed in 2016, and We Will Always Love You in 2020. Chater and Di Blasi lead the group today with the multi-instrumentalist Andy Szekeres.
The Roundhouse was built in 1846 as a circular engine shed and opened as a performing arts venue in 1964. Their show joins a band to DJing, and each night travels across all three albums, from “Frontier Psychiatrist” to the most recent record.
