Behind a Corinthian-columned facade on Carlton House Terrace, overlooking St James's Park and The Mall, the Royal Society has occupied 6-9 Carlton House Terrace since 1967. The Grade I terrace was built to John Nash's designs in the 1820s and 1830s; inside, marble staircases and gilded ceilings sit alongside portraits of the fellowship's past presidents — a reminder that this remains the world's oldest continuously operating scientific academy.
Twelve rooms are available for private and corporate hire, from the oval-tabled Council Room to the Wellcome Trust Lecture Hall, the Society's largest space, fitted with a full audio-visual system and webcasting facilities. The Marble Hall, decorated in the Venetian style with a coffered gilt ceiling, and the wood-panelled Kohn Centre, let together, suit a dinner or reception; the Wolfson Rooms, restored to their 1890s form, and the Dining Room both look out over Waterloo Gardens and the Mall. Catering runs in-house through the Society's caterer, Graysons.
The whole building can be taken on exclusive hire, with on-site technicians supporting AV for conferences, dinners and receptions alike.

City of London Rooms
PrivateThree adjoining rooms with views over St James's Park, used as the catering and reception area for the Wellcome Trust Lecture Hall or opened together for a reception of up to 300.
Wellcome Trust Lecture Hall
PrivateThe Society's largest room, fully air-conditioned with a sophisticated audio-visual system and webcasting facilities, controlled from a technician's box or the speaker's platform. Seats up to 240 for a round-table dinner or 300 theatre-style, with reception capacity for 300.
Dining Room
PrivateA lower-ground-floor room with a high, arched ceiling and large windows, used for dinners, receptions and exhibitions, or as additional catering space for the Wellcome Trust Lecture Hall.
Kohn Centre
PrivateA wood-panelled room hung with portraits of past Society presidents, fully air-conditioned and soundproofed, with views over St James's Park and The Mall. Only available let together with the Marble Hall.
Marble Hall
PrivateDecorated in the Venetian style with a gilt coffered ceiling, and the Society's motto, Nullius in verba, inscribed above the doorway. A reception and registration space, and the catering area for events in the adjoining Kohn Centre.
Wolfson Rooms
PrivateA suite of three rooms restored to their 1890s decoration, with views of the Mall, St James's Park and Waterloo Gardens. Room One, the largest, seats up to 70 for dinner; Rooms Two and Three seat 50 and 30.
Conference Room
PrivateA first-floor room with large windows over Waterloo Gardens, used for meetings, presentations, receptions and dinners.
Council Room
PrivateA prestigious setting for board meetings and press briefings, built around an integral oval table fitted with power outlets, with an adjoining anteroom for catering.
