The Delaunay opened in 2011 on the corner of Aldwych and Drury Lane, the second grand café from Chris Corbin and Jeremy King and now part of The Wolseley Hospitality Group. It takes its cue from the great coffee houses of Vienna and Mitteleuropa: dark wood panelling, brass fixtures, marble counters, banquette seating and an original art collection that runs the length of the room. The kitchen moves through the whole day without pause, from Viennoiserie at breakfast to Holstein schnitzel and tartes flambées at dinner, with a Viennese-style afternoon tea in between.
The main dining room is the venue's signature space and one of the most handsome rooms in the West End, equally at home with theatre-goers before a show and long, unhurried suppers after it. A separate cocktail bar of dark wood and marble sits to one side, and a raised private dining room overlooks the restaurant from above, panelled and flooded with daylight yet held apart from the floor below.
For private events the appeal is the room itself. The Delaunay Counter, the all-day café adjacent to the restaurant, has its own street entrance and takes exclusive evening hire for seated dinners or standing receptions, which makes it the most flexible of the spaces for a hosted evening with music. The Delaunay Counter
Exclusive HireThe all-day café next to the main restaurant, with its own separate street entrance, taken for exclusive evening hire. Marble counter, dark wood panelling and vintage Viennese ephemera give it a self-contained character apart from the dining room, and the private entrance makes it the most practical of the spaces for a hosted evening with a DJ. Seats up to 30 for dinner or holds up to 80 for a standing reception.
The Private Dining Room
PrivateA panelled room on a raised level above the restaurant floor, shielded from the street yet lit by large windows, hung with original paintings from the house collection. Seats up to 24 across one table, with a dedicated waiter for the event. It divides into two smaller rooms, the Corner Room and the Kean Room, for more intimate gatherings.
The Kean Room
PrivateThe larger half of the divided private dining room, seating up to 16. Panelled and daylit on the raised level overlooking the restaurant, with a dedicated waiter for the table.
The Corner Room
PrivateThe smaller of the two rooms the private dining room divides into, seating up to 10 for an intimate lunch or dinner. Same wood panelling, daylight and hung paintings as the larger room, set apart on the raised level above the restaurant.
