Brumus

Brumus is the all-day restaurant and bar of the Haymarket Hotel, Firmdale's John Nash building on Suffolk Place, a short walk from Piccadilly Circus and the Theatre Royal Haymarket. It keeps West End hours, opening for breakfast and running through pre-theatre dinners to a late bar, and draws a mix of hotel guests, theatregoers and a local lunch crowd.

The room is a Kit Kemp design: walls in two-tone Indian pink linen, columns wrapped in ruby Christopher Farr cloth, and deep banquettes and private booths set beneath bold contemporary canvases. Each chair and barstool carries a hand-appliquéd dog, a nod to the restaurant's namesake spaniel, and a life-size horse sculpture stands in the window. The bar itself is dark oak topped in pewter, its mirrored back wall catching the colour of the room.

The kitchen cooks modern British, from elevated brasserie classics and seasonal plates to a pre-theatre set menu and the daily London Calling afternoon tea. The bar mixes cocktails themed to West End productions and hosts live jazz midweek. Brumus takes private bookings across the restaurant and its booths, and larger events extend into the hotel's private rooms, including the de Gournay-papered Shooting Gallery; the restaurant seats 85 with a further 46 at the bar.
