Pennyhill Park is a 19th-century ivy-clad country house in Bagshot, set in 120 acres of Surrey parkland and run by Exclusive Collection. It has 124 bedrooms, a 45,000 sq ft spa with indoor and outdoor pools, and three restaurants: the farm-to-fork Hillfield, Themis in the spa, and Latymer, the fine-dining room set in the oldest part of the house.
For a private celebration the house works at every scale. The Balmoral Suite on the first floor of the Castle Wing is the largest room, with handcrafted chandeliers, dual-aspect windows and its own bar and foyer, seating 280 for dinner and holding 300 for a reception. The Terrace Wing is given over to weddings and parties: Parkview has gold chandeliers and a private stone balcony, opens into Water Iris for 132 at dinner, and Water Lily carries hand-painted panelling for drinks. In the main house, the wood-panelled Library with its stained glass takes 96 seated, and a run of smaller panelled rooms suits a dinner for twenty or thirty.
Outside, a wrought-iron pavilion faces a tiered lawn and the Lily Pond Terrace, and the whole hotel can be taken on an exclusive-use basis, from the bedrooms to the helipad. It is 25 miles from central London and 25 minutes from Heathrow.
