Michael Caines at The Stafford

Michael Caines at The Stafford is the Devon chef's first London kitchen, occupying the ground-floor dining room of The Stafford, the discreet St James's Place hotel tucked between Green Park and the clubs of Pall Mall. The room reworks the former Game Bird space rather than replacing it: pale panelled walls with ornate plaster cornicing, grey velvet buttoned banquettes, floral bird-print armchairs on deep-red leather frames, gilded candelabra sconces and marble-topped tables, with commissioned British artwork and a small central bar. The mood is old-school and unhurried, faintly aristocratic, a room to linger in rather than pass through.

The cooking is modern European built on British seasonal produce, much of it from Caines' own Devon estate at Lympstone Manor, run alongside Stafford classics such as beef Wellington carved at the table. The kitchen earned its first MICHELIN star in the 2026 Great Britain & Ireland guide, five months after opening, the hotel's first star in its history.

For private events the dining room is available for exclusive hire, seating around thirty for a seated dinner or a standing reception. Larger gatherings draw on the hotel's own event spaces, from the Sutherland Room to the candle-lit 400-year-old Wine Cellars, so a booking can grow beyond the restaurant walls when it needs to.
