/ About
Mary's occupied 8-10 Pollen Street, the Mayfair address that had been Jason Atherton's Michelin-starred flagship Pollen Street Social since 2011. In September 2024 Atherton and his wife Irha reworked the room into a more relaxed grill house and burger bar, naming it for a regular at the old restaurant's counter who ordered a Martini and a small steak and stopped coming once the menu turned tasting-menu-only. Chef Alex Parker, previously of Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Claude Bosi at Bibendum and Social Eating House, ran the kitchen: a wood-fired grill of Cumbrian steaks and whole fish alongside small plates, priced well below the restaurant it replaced.
The room stayed recognisably Pollen Street Social, rearranged rather than rebuilt, with new artwork and lower, later-feeling lighting. At the front, The Blind Pig - Atherton's cocktail bar, relocated from the shuttered Social Eating House - poured a whimsical, Greek-god-themed cocktail list and a wide run of wine, beer and Guinness on tap, with vinyl playing into the evening. The old dessert counter became a ten-seat walk-in burger bar, one item only: a Cumbrian beef smash burger with deep-fried pickles, chilli mayonnaise, streaky bacon, cheese and crispy onions. Mary's Terrace gave the grill room an outdoor seat.
The wine list, curated with an emphasis on female winemakers, ran from an easy Chenin Blanc by the glass or the pint to a Harlan Estate vintage. Mary's traded lunch and dinner Tuesday to Saturday, lunch on Monday, with the Blind Pig open through to midnight most nights.
