/ About
J Sheekey has served fish and shellfish from St Martin's Court since 1896, when the stallholder Josef Sheekey was granted permission to trade in the lanes behind Leicester Square. The red frontage has marked the spot through theatreland's comings and goings ever since, and the restaurant remains part of Richard Caring's Caprice Holdings.
Inside, wood-panelled walls, olive-green banquettes and black-and-white portraits of the actors who have passed through give the rooms a settled, theatrical character. The adjoining Atlantic Bar carries the same kitchen and service in a more relaxed setting, with a marble dining bar, framed caricatures and a pavement terrace on St Martin's Court.
Private and group occasions are held in the Atlantic Bar, which seats up to twenty across two tables of ten. Flowers, candles, dedicated menus and place cards are arranged for each booking, and entertainment or AV can be brought in through the restaurant's suppliers. The whole restaurant is also available for exclusive hire.
