German Gymnasium

German Gymnasium occupies the Grade II listed hall built in 1865 for the German Gymnastics Society, the drill floor that staged London's first indoor Olympic events in 1866 and again in 1908. Conran and Partners restored it in 2015 for D&D London's Evolv Collection, keeping the soaring timber roof, the iron tie-beams and the original climbing hooks overhead. The result is a grand café in the Mitteleuropean tradition, serving schnitzel, wurst and seasonal German cooking across two floors beside St Pancras.

The ground-floor Grand Café gathers around a marble island bar beneath the full height of the hall, while the first-floor Restaurant, reached by a sweeping staircase, runs the length of the roof trusses with the Meister Bar at one end and a semi-private dining room lit by arched windows. An outdoor terrace on Pancras Square looks across to the St Pancras clock tower. It is one of the few rooms in King's Cross with the scale for a standing reception and the character to carry a seated dinner.

For private events the venue hires by the space or in full. The Semi-Private Dining Room seats 32, the terrace holds a summer reception, the entire upper floor takes 150 for dinner or 250 standing, and exclusive hire of both floors runs to 250 seated or 500 for a reception. A private entrance, an in-house events team and a full cocktail list from the Meister Bar make it a natural fit for launches, celebrations and corporate evenings.
