Dean Street Townhouse

Dean Street Townhouse has occupied a Georgian house in the middle of Soho since 2009. Its ground-floor dining room is British in the old manner — red leather banquettes, white linen, an all-day menu that runs from breakfast through Sunday roast to afternoon tea. The walls are hung salon-style from wainscot to cornice with the collection Jonathan Yeo assembled alongside the writer Francesca Gavin: Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Gavin Turk, Peter Blake, Polly Morgan. Soho House's art collection, now spread across the group, began in this building.

Two rooms are let privately. The Snug is a fully enclosed dining room off the main restaurant, panelled in dark oak and curtained at the entrance, seating fourteen. The Parlour sits alongside the restaurant and is semi-private, with a fireplace and low velvet seating; Kate Bryan re-hung it in 2018 with eight young women artists, bringing colour and larger canvases into a collection that had until then been monochrome and modest in scale. Booked together the two rooms seat thirty, or take seventy standing for drinks and canapés. Both go to members and non-members alike, for daytime and evening occasions.

Thirty-nine bedrooms fill the floors above, with original fireplaces and vintage marble, so a guest list arriving from out of town can stay in the building. Those upper floors housed the Gargoyle Club from 1925; its founder hung two Matisse paintings there and had Matisse advise on the decoration. The house serves until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
