Amazónico

Amazónico took over a corner of Berkeley Square in 2019 and turned it into one of Mayfair's most theatrical rooms. The Lázaro Rosa-Violán interior reads as a tropical hothouse: hanging foliage, fringed lamps, a canopy of glass cloches over the central floor, and deep green velvet throughout. The cooking draws on the Amazonian basin filtered through the Asian and Mediterranean communities that settled there, so a parrilla grill and a six-seat sushi counter share the same menu.

Music runs through the whole place. A live band plays Latin jazz, bossa nova and swing in the restaurant most nights, while resident DJs work the Bar & Lounge with the 'elec-tropical' sets the room is known for. The real find is OCTO, a destination cocktail bar hidden beneath the kitchen down a flight of golden stairs. Designed around the idea of life beneath the Amazon River, it has shimmering teal walls, an octopus motif overhead and a resident DJ booth at the back, open Wednesday to Saturday from early evening.

For private events there are two dedicated spaces alongside OCTO and the Lounge: a green-walled Private Dining Room seating up to 22, and OCTO itself, which takes 52 seated or 80 standing for an exclusive-hire reception. Both rooms have a house PA. The kitchen runs late and the room holds a smart-elegant dress code, which keeps the late-night crowd in line with the address.
