White Cube Bermondsey previews Chronotopic, a Gabriel Orozco survey of over a hundred works curated by Briony Fer, on the evening of Tuesday 15 September 2026, six until eight.
Jay Jopling established White Cube in London in 1993, and for its first decade the gallery showed no artist twice, a rule that made the programme a sequence of arguments rather than a roster. It gave several artists their first exhibition in Britain, opened a purpose-built gallery in St James’s in 2006, and added Bermondsey Street in 2011, still the largest commercial gallery space in Europe. Gabriel Orozco opened Mason’s Yard with an articulated whale skeleton, so this survey returns him to the house he inaugurated.
Chronotopic is the largest Orozco the gallery has mounted, and Briony Fer has structured it as what the artist calls a chrono-nautical log, a record of observations and associations rather than a chronology. Over a hundred works are set against one another across sculpture, painting, photography, assemblage and works on paper, new pieces beside existing ones. Orozco has worked this way since the early 1990s, treating the found object and the studio work as one material.
The preview is on Tuesday 15 September 2026, six until eight, the evening before the show opens. It falls on three anniversaries at once: ten years of the Orozco Garden at the South London Gallery, twenty since Mason’s Yard, and thirty since the ICA gave him his first London solo. The exhibition then stands until 8 November, which carries it through Frieze week and out the other side.
