Tom Hanks, Tim Allen and Joan Cusack brought Pixar’s Toy Story 5 to Leicester Square for its UK launch, the first stop on the film’s global tour.
Disney and Pixar launched Toy Story 5 in Britain at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on Thursday 28 May 2026, the first stop on the film’s global tour.
Tom Hanks led the voice cast on the carpet. Born in Concord, California, in 1956, he studied theatre at Chabot College and California State University, Sacramento, and spent three years with the Great Lakes Theater Festival in Cleveland before Splash gave him his first leading film role in 1984. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in consecutive years, for Philadelphia and Forrest Gump, and has voiced the cowboy doll Woody since the first Toy Story in 1995, the first feature film animated entirely by computer.
Tim Allen, Joan Cusack and Greta Lee joined him, with the director Andrew Stanton and the producer Lindsey Collins. Stanton co-wrote the original Toy Story and went on to direct Finding Nemo and WALL-E, both winners of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
The new film is set two years after the fourth. Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie meet Lilypad, a tablet computer voiced by Lee, who becomes the new favourite of their owner, Bonnie, and arrives with her own ideas about what is best for a child. Randy Newman returned to write the score, his fifth for the series, and the film reached British cinemas on 19 June.
