Steve Hackett, lead guitarist of Genesis through its classic 1970s albums, returns to the Royal Albert Hall with Genesis songs and his own solo work.
Steve Hackett, lead guitarist of Genesis in the 1970s, plays Best of Genesis & Solo Gems at the Royal Albert Hall in South Kensington on Monday 26 October 2026.
Born in Pimlico in 1950, Hackett placed an advertisement in the music press in December 1970 seeking a band. He joined Genesis the following year and played on Selling England by the Pound and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.
He stayed for A Trick of the Tail after Peter Gabriel left, and departed in 1977. His first solo record, Voyage of the Acolyte, had come out in 1975. In 2010 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis.
His early two-handed tapping and sweep picking have been credited with influencing Eddie Van Halen and Brian May.
His Genesis Revisited tour ended in this Hall and was released as Genesis Revisited: Live at the Royal Albert Hall. This is his first show there since, and the programme ranges across his Genesis years and his solo catalogue.
His long-standing band includes Nad Sylvan on vocals and Rob Townsend on saxophone and flutes.
