Florence Pugh led the cast of Thunderbolts*, Marvel Studios’ film about a team of reluctant antiheroes, at its European premiere at Cineworld Leicester Square.
Marvel Studios held the European premiere of Thunderbolts* at Cineworld Leicester Square in the West End on Tuesday 22 April 2025. Florence Pugh, who plays the Russian assassin Yelena Belova, led the cast.
Pugh was born in Oxford in 1996 and spent part of her childhood in Spain. Her first screen role came at 17 in Carol Morley’s The Falling, and William Oldroyd’s Lady Macbeth made her name in 2016.
Greta Gerwig’s Little Women brought her an Academy Award nomination. She first played Yelena in Black Widow in 2021, and Oppenheimer and We Live in Time came after it.
Jake Schreier directed the film, the last of Marvel’s fifth phase. Yelena, still grieving her sister, is drawn into a trap with fellow operatives whom the CIA director, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, has set against one another.
David Harbour, who plays Yelena’s adoptive father Alexei, joined Pugh on the carpet with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lewis Pullman, Wyatt Russell and Hannah John-Kamen. Pedro Pascal was among the guests.
The ensemble includes Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes. Marvel released the film in British cinemas on 1 May.
