Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie opened Chris Columbus’s film of Richard Osman’s bestselling mystery in Leicester Square.
The Thursday Murder Club held its world premiere in Leicester Square on Thursday 21 August 2025, a week before Chris Columbus’s adaptation of Richard Osman’s novel reached Netflix.
Helen Mirren headed the cast on the carpet. Born Ilyena Lydia Mironoff in London in 1945, she began with the National Youth Theatre, playing Cleopatra in 1965, and went on to the Royal Shakespeare Company before her West End debut in 1975. She led the television crime series Prime Suspect, and her accolades include an Academy Award, four BAFTAs and five Emmys. Playing Elizabeth II in Peter Morgan’s The Audience won her the Olivier and then the Tony, and she is the only performer to hold both the American and the British Triple Crowns of acting. She was made a Dame in 2003.
Columbus directed from a screenplay by Katy Brand and Suzanne Heathcote, based on Osman’s 2020 novel, and Amblin Entertainment produced it with Jennifer Todd. Mirren played Elizabeth, one of four residents of the Coopers Chase retirement village drawn into a murder investigation, alongside Pierce Brosnan as Ron, Ben Kingsley as Ibrahim and Celia Imrie as Joyce.
All four walked the carpet together, joined by Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant from the supporting cast. The film played in selected British cinemas from 22 August before its release on Netflix on 28 August 2025.
