Glen Powell led the UK premiere of Edgar Wright's The Running Man, the second screen adaptation of Stephen King's 1982 novel of a lethal game show.
Edgar Wright’s The Running Man held its premiere at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on Wednesday 5 November 2025. Glen Powell, who plays the runner Ben Richards, led the cast on the carpet.
Powell was born in Austin, Texas, in 1988 and was acting as a teenager, with small parts in Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over and Fast Food Nation. Richard Linklater cast him in Everybody Wants Some!!, and he played the astronaut John Glenn in Hidden Figures. The fighter pilot Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick made his name in 2022, and the romantic comedy Anyone but You confirmed him as a leading man. He co-wrote and produced Hit Man with Linklater, then starred in Twisters, and he remains enrolled at the University of Texas, studying film remotely.
The film is the second adaptation of Stephen King’s 1982 novel, after the 1987 picture, and Wright wrote it with Michael Bacall. It imagines a near-future America ruled by a media network whose most popular show pays a billion dollars to any contestant who survives thirty days of being hunted. Josh Brolin, William H. Macy and Michael Cera are among the cast.
Colman Domingo, Lee Pace and Emilia Jones joined Powell and Wright on the carpet. The film is a British and American production, made by Kinberg Genre and the British company Complete Fiction, with Nira Park producing alongside Wright.
