Christopher Nolan opened The Odyssey in Leicester Square, with Matt Damon, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway and Robert Pattinson on the carpet for the world premiere.

Christopher Nolan, the director of Inception, held the world premiere of The Odyssey at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in the West End on Monday 6 July 2026. Matt Damon, who plays Odysseus, led the cast.

Nolan was born in London in 1970. He read English literature at University College London, where he ran the film society with Emma Thomas, later his wife and producer.

Memento and the Dark Knight trilogy followed his first feature, Following. Oppenheimer won him the Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Picture in 2024, the year he was knighted.

The film adapts Homer’s poem of the voyage home from the Trojan War by the king of Ithaca. It was shot in Morocco, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Iceland and Malta, and is the first feature filmed entirely on IMAX 70mm cameras.

The London premiere opened the film’s global tour, and it reached British cinemas on 17 July.

Damon won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Good Will Hunting, and this was his third film with Nolan. Anne Hathaway plays his wife, Penelope, with Zendaya, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong’o, Mia Goth and Samantha Morton.
