David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult met fans in Leicester Square for James Gunn’s Superman, the first film of the new DC Universe.
Warner Bros. brought Superman to Cineworld Leicester Square for a UK fan premiere on Wednesday 2 July 2025, five days before the film’s Hollywood premiere.
David Corenswet, the new Superman, was born in Philadelphia in 1993 and acted on the city’s stages as a child, appearing in an Arden Theatre production of Arthur Miller’s All My Sons in 2002. He spent a year at the University of Pennsylvania before moving to the Juilliard School, where he graduated in drama in 2016. Lead roles followed in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix series The Politician and Hollywood, then the films Pearl and Twisters, before James Gunn cast him as Clark Kent opposite Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane.
Gunn wrote and directed the film, the first in the DC Universe he runs with Peter Safran as co-chief executives of DC Studios. Filming began in Svalbard, Norway, in February 2024 and moved to Trilith Studios in Atlanta. Nicholas Hoult played the tech billionaire Lex Luthor, whose part in an international conflict turned the public against the hero. Edi Gathegi and Nathan Fillion played the superhero colleagues who helped him win it back.
Corenswet, Brosnahan and Hoult met fans on the carpet with Gunn and Safran, and Corenswet wore an oversized red bow tie for the occasion. The film reached British cinemas later in July and went on to gross more than $618 million worldwide.
