Contemporary Evening Auction

The Contemporary Evening Auction is the sale Sotheby’s times to Frieze, and in 2026 it falls on Thursday 15 October at seven in the evening on New Bond Street. The house describes this season’s offering as running from post-war abstraction and Pop through to a generation still establishing itself, with a particular weight of German art of the last century. Consignments were still being taken in late August, so the lot list is not yet published and the shape of the evening is still being decided in Mayfair. Phillips holds its own evening sale two hours earlier and four streets away on the same Thursday, which is how Frieze week is built. Sotheby’s has been at 34–35 New Bond Street since 1917, and at auction in London since Samuel Baker’s first sale in 1744.
