Rylan Clark and Jon Richardson, the British voices of Vanity and Grouchy Smurf, presented Paramount’s animated Smurfs at Cineworld Leicester Square.
Paramount’s animated Smurfs reached London with a special screening at Cineworld Leicester Square on Sunday 13 July 2025 hosted by the film’s British voices, Rylan Clark and Jon Richardson.
Clark was born Ross Clark in Stepney in 1988, grew up in the East End and took the name Rylan from a baby-name book as a teenage model. The ninth series of The X Factor made him known in 2012, and he won Celebrity Big Brother the following year. He has since presented This Morning and It Takes Two, and has co-commentated the Eurovision semi-finals since 2018. Richardson, born in Lancaster in 1982, left a Hispanic Studies degree at Bristol to work as a chef, earned a Best Newcomer nomination at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2007 and became a fixture of 8 Out of 10 Cats. In the British version he voices Grouchy Smurf and Clark voices Vanity.
The film reboots the series drawn from the comics of the Belgian artist Peyo. Chris Miller directed from a screenplay by Pam Brady, and Rihanna produced it and voices Smurfette, who leads the Smurfs into the real world when Papa Smurf, voiced by John Goodman, is taken by the wizards Razamel and Gargamel.
The screening came with ice cream, a bakery and a Smurfette disco, and the two presenters met the characters in costume. The same day Clark unveiled a Smurfs-liveried train at King’s Cross.
