British flat racing’s end-of-season card ran at Ascot Racecourse in Ascot, Berkshire, on Saturday 18 October 2025. Two of its Group 1s went to outsiders, at 200-1 and 100-1.
The fixture has run at Ascot every October since 2011. It brought the Diadem Stakes and the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes from Ascot together with the Champion Stakes, the Jockey Club Cup and the Pride Stakes from Newmarket. Until 2024 it was the culmination of the British Champions Series, discontinued in 2025.
Frankel won the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at the first meeting and the Champion Stakes a year later. The second of those days drew 32,000 people, a modern autumn record for flat racing in Britain.
Powerful Glory won the British Champions Sprint at 200-1, the longest-priced Group 1 winner in Britain. Cicero’s Gift followed in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at 100-1, and Trawlerman won the Long Distance Cup for John and Thady Gosden.
In the Champion Stakes, Calandagan, trained in France by Francis-Graffard, beat the favourite Ombudsman by a length under Mickael Barzalona. Oisin Murphy was crowned champion jockey for a fifth time, and Godolphin champion owner for a seventeenth.
