Ryan Gosling brought Project Hail Mary, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s film of Andy Weir’s novel, to its premiere in Leicester Square.
Ryan Gosling brought Project Hail Mary to Cineworld Leicester Square on Monday 9 March 2026 for its premiere, with the film’s directors, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, beside him.
Gosling was born in London, Ontario, in 1980 and began on The All New Mickey Mouse Club at twelve. He moved into film in the 1990s, drew praise for The Believer in 2001 and became a leading man with The Notebook in 2004, after teen dramas including Breaker High and Young Hercules. He has since been nominated for three Academy Awards and won a Golden Globe, and the films he has led have grossed more than $4 billion.
Drew Goddard adapted the film from Andy Weir’s 2021 novel. Gosling, who also produced it, plays Ryland Grace, a schoolteacher who wakes aboard an interstellar spacecraft with no memory of how he came to be there. It was shot through 2024 in Britain, on location and on sets, and every scene aboard the Hail Mary was filmed on a practical set built for the production. Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung and Milana Vayntrub are also in the cast.
Sandra Hüller, James Ortiz and Priya Kansara of the cast joined Gosling, Lord, Miller and Goddard on the carpet with the producers Amy Pascal and Aditya Sood, eleven days before the film reached American cinemas. It went on to gross $685 million worldwide.
