Robert Pattinson and Bong Joon Ho opened Mickey 17, the director’s first film since Parasite, at its world premiere in Leicester Square.
Mickey 17, Bong Joon Ho’s first film since Parasite, held its world premiere in Leicester Square in the West End on Thursday 13 February 2025. Robert Pattinson, who plays the title role, led the cast on the carpet.
Pattinson was born in Barnes, south-west London, in 1986 and began acting as a teenager with the Barnes Theatre Company. The Twilight films made him famous worldwide, and he played the title role in The Batman in 2022.
Bong wrote the screenplay from Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel Mickey7. Pattinson plays Mickey Barnes, a man in debt who signs on as an “expendable” on an expedition to an ice planet. Each time he dies on a fatal job he is printed anew, until two copies of him are alive at once.
In 2020 Parasite became the first film not in English to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, and Bong took Best Director the same night.
The premiere brought Pattinson back to the city where he was born. Mark Ruffalo, Toni Collette, Naomi Ackie and Steven Yeun joined him and Bong on the carpet, and Warner Bros. released the film in British cinemas on 7 March.
