Lordships Graffalo won Badminton for a third time in 2026 under Ros Canter, the first combination to do so in the event’s 77-year history.
Ros Canter and Lordships Graffalo won the 2026 MARS Badminton Horse Trials at the Badminton Estate in Gloucestershire, from Wednesday 6 to Sunday 10 May. They became the first combination to win it three times.
Badminton began in 1949, when the 10th Duke of Beaufort opened the park of his own house to eventing.
It remains one of only seven five-star events, the highest grade in eventing. Horses face a dressage test, then fixed timber, ditches, banks and water at speed across country, then a course of poles on the final day.
The 14-year-old Lordships Graffalo, known as Walter, led after the cross country and went into the jumping 10.2 penalties clear. Canter used two of them, in time, for a clear final round.
The win followed Walter’s victories in 2023 and 2025 and carried a prize of £125,000, the richest in eventing. Tim Price rose to second on Falco, and Harry Meade finished third on Annaghmore Valoner.
Canter’s three wins put her level with Sheila Willcox, Ginny Elliot, Ian Stark and Pippa Funnell. Only Lucinda Green, Mark Phillips and Mark Todd have won more.
