The Goodwood Revival holds its Sussex circuit to the eighteen seasons it raced between 1948 and 1966, with every car on the grid and every outfit in the crowd from that era.
The Goodwood Revival, a race meeting held within the circuit’s racing years, returns to Goodwood Motor Circuit in Chichester, West Sussex, from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 September 2027. Dunlop presents the 2027 meeting.
Freddie March, the ninth Duke of Richmond and an accomplished amateur racer, opened the circuit in September 1948. He drove a Bristol 400 around the perimeter road of the wartime airfield on his estate.
It raced for 18 seasons and closed in 1966, when the cars had grown too fast for it. His grandson reopened it in 1998 as the Revival, on condition it stayed in period. Ray Hanna marked the first meeting by flying a Spitfire low along the pit straight.
The racing runs on the circuit’s original layout. Grand Prix cars, sports racers and touring cars of the kind that competed here before 1966 take part, driven by champions past and present.
The marshals, the signage and the fuel pumps are dressed to the same 18 years. Visitors come in the clothes of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.
The meeting closes on the Sunday with the RAC TT Celebration, after which ticket holders walk onto the grid among the drivers and riders.
