Giant: UK Gala Screening

Wednesday, 7 January 2026 Picturehouse Central · West End

Pierce Brosnan and Amir El-Masry presented Giant, Rowan Athale’s film of the boxer Naseem Hamed and his trainer Brendan Ingle, at a gala screening in the West End.

Pierce Brosnan and Amir El-Masry brought Giant to Picturehouse Central on Wednesday 7 January 2026, for a UK gala screening two days before Rowan Athale’s film about the boxer Naseem Hamed opened in British cinemas.

Brosnan was born in Drogheda, County Louth, in 1953. He left school at sixteen, trained in commercial illustration and then spent three years at the Drama Centre London, and after a stage career he became known on television in Remington Steele. Between 1995 and 2002 he played James Bond four times, from GoldenEye to Die Another Day, and he has since worked across The Thomas Crown Affair, The Ghost Writer and both Mamma Mia! films, and he holds two Golden Globe nominations, for Nancy Astor and The Matador. In Giant he plays Brendan Ingle, the Irish trainer who shaped Hamed’s career.

Athale, whose earlier credits include Gangs of London, wrote and directed the film, with Sylvester Stallone as an executive producer. It follows Hamed from a working-class childhood in Sheffield to the championship fights of the 1990s, and it keeps the bond between fighter and trainer at its centre, against the swagger that made Hamed famous. El-Masry, seen in The Night Manager and Limbo, plays Hamed.

Hamed himself joined Athale, Brosnan and El-Masry on the carpet, three months after the film’s first screening at the BFI London Film Festival.
