Food For Thought: World Premiere

Friday, 24 January 2025 Royal Geographical Society · South Kensington

Peter Egan hosted the world premiere of Food For Thought, Dan Richardson and Giles Alderson’s documentary on the vegan movement, in aid of two animal charities.

Food For Thought, a feature documentary on the growth of the vegan movement, held its world premiere at the Royal Geographical Society on Friday 24 January 2025. The actor Peter Egan hosted the evening for the film’s two makers.

Egan was born in Hampstead in 1946 and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. The Hireling won him the BAFTA for most promising newcomer in 1973, and he played the Duke of Sutherland in Chariots of Fire. Television audiences know him as Paul Ryman in Ever Decreasing Circles and as Shrimpie, the Marquess of Flintshire, in Downton Abbey. A vegan since 2016, he campaigns for animal welfare and is an ambassador for the Animals Asia Foundation.

The film is the work of the actor Dan Richardson, a patron of the Born Free Foundation, and the director Giles Alderson, whose earlier documentaries include World of Darkness. The pair filmed over several years, interviewing Philip Lymbery of Compassion in World Farming, the Beyond Meat founder Ethan Brown and Mate Rimac of Rimac Automobili. They also followed a group of volunteers through their first 30 days on a plant-based diet.

Richardson and Alderson joined Egan for a panel conversation after the screening. All profits from the evening went to Animal Aid and Goodheart Animal Sanctuaries, and the makers released the film to watch free worldwide at the end of February.
