The 2027 men’s Ashes finish at The Oval, the ground where Australia’s win in 1882 gave the series its name.
England meet Australia in the fifth and final Test of the 2027 Ashes at The Kia Oval in Kennington from Thursday 29 July to Monday 2 August 2027.
Surrey have played at the Oval since 1845. The ground staged the first Test in England in 1880, when C. W. Alcock was the club’s secretary.
The series was born here two years later. Australia won by seven runs inside two days, their first Test victory on English soil, and a London newspaper printed a mock obituary for English cricket.
The body, it announced, would be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia. The England captain Ivo Bligh vowed that winter to regain them, and the name has stood for every England and Australia series since.
Australia hold the Ashes after winning the 2025 to 2026 series at home, and England have not won an Ashes since 2015. The 2027 series opens at Trent Bridge on Friday 18 June.
The last men’s Test between the sides at the Oval, in 2023, was Stuart Broad’s final match. England won it to level the series, and Broad left with 45 Test wickets at the ground.
