The Crawleys took their last bow on the big screen as Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, the third and final film of Julian Fellowes' saga, premiered in Leicester Square.

The third and final Downton Abbey film, The Grand Finale, held its world premiere at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in the West End on Wednesday 3 September 2025. It closed a saga that began on ITV in 2010.

Hugh Bonneville, who plays Robert Crawley, Earl of Grantham, was born in Paddington in 1963 and read theology at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. The Downton role brought him a Golden Globe nomination and two Emmy nominations.

Michelle Dockery grew up in Romford and trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She earned an Olivier nomination for Burnt by the Sun before Lady Mary Crawley, the role that brought her three Emmy nominations.

Simon Curtis directed from a screenplay by Julian Fellowes, following Downton Abbey in 2019 and A New Era in 2022. Set in London in 1930, the film finds Mary at the centre of a public scandal as the household prepares to hand Downton to the next generation.

Dominic West, Jim Carter and Penelope Wilton joined the two leads on the carpet, with Joely Richardson, new to the cast. Paul Giamatti also returned for the film, which Universal released in British cinemas on 12 September.
