Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-0 in the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley, where two Nico O’Reilly goals in four minutes ended Arsenal’s hopes of four trophies.
Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-0 in the League Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 22 March 2026, eight years after City had beaten Arsenal in the same fixture.
The League Cup began in the 1960-61 season as a midweek floodlit tournament for Football League clubs, conceived by Stanley Rous and put into practice by Alan Hardaker. It became a single match at Wembley in 1967.
Every one of the 92 clubs in the Premier League and the English Football League enters.
City had won the competition eight times, four of them in a row to 2021. Arsenal, in their ninth League Cup final, were chasing a first major trophy since the 2020 FA Cup and were still in contention for four trophies that season.
The goals came just after the hour. Kepa Arrizabalaga, standing in for Arsenal, fumbled Rayan Cherki’s cross and Nico O’Reilly headed in, and four minutes later O’Reilly converted Matheus Nunes’ cross.
Riccardo Calafiori hit a post and Gabriel Jesus the crossbar, and O’Reilly was named man of the match before 88,486. It was City’s ninth League Cup and Pep Guardiola’s 19th trophy in ten seasons at the club.
