Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World, Anthony Mackie’s first film in the title role, was celebrated at a UK special screening in Leicester Square.

Captain America: Brave New World had a UK special screening at Cineworld Leicester Square in the West End, listed for Wednesday 12 February 2025. It is Anthony Mackie’s first film in the title role.

Mackie plays Sam Wilson. Born in New Orleans in 1978, he trained at the Juilliard School, made his film debut in 8 Mile in 2002 and drew notice in The Hurt Locker.

He first played Wilson, as the Falcon, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier in 2014. He took up the shield in the series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in 2021.

Harrison Ford plays Thaddeus Ross, the newly elected President, taking over a part William Hurt held until his death in 2022. The film turns Ross into the Red Hulk.

Julius Onah directed. Born in Makurdi, Nigeria, in 1983, he grew up in the Philippines, Nigeria, Togo and Britain, and his films include The Cloverfield Paradox and Luce.

The screening followed the cast’s visit to Trafalgar Square on 30 January, where Mackie, Danny Ramirez and Ford were photographed beside a Red Hulk hand gripping the shield. The film opened in British cinemas on 14 February.
