Wednesday, 29 January 2025 Odeon Luxe Leicester Square · West End

Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant opened the fourth Bridget Jones film, Michael Morris’s adaptation of Helen Fielding’s 2013 novel, in Leicester Square.

Renée Zellweger and Hugh Grant led the world premiere of the fourth Bridget Jones film at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in the West End on Wednesday 29 January 2025. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Leo Woodall joined them.

Zellweger returned to the part that brought her an Academy Award nomination in 2002. Grant was born in Hammersmith in 1960 and read English at New College, Oxford, where a student film, Privileged, gave him his first screen part.

Four Weddings and a Funeral won him a BAFTA and a Golden Globe in 1995, and Notting Hill and About a Boy followed. In these films he plays Daniel Cleaver, the publisher Bridget first fell for in 2001.

Michael Morris directed Mad About the Boy from a screenplay by Helen Fielding, Dan Mazer and Abi Morgan, adapted from Fielding’s 2013 novel. Bridget is now a widowed mother of two in north London, returning to work and to dating.

The premiere came nine years after the previous film, and Universal released it in British cinemas in the week of Valentine’s Day.

Ejiofor plays her son’s science teacher and Woodall a much younger admirer, and Jim Broadbent and Isla Fisher were among the guests.
