Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender presented Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag, a spy drama about a marriage inside British intelligence, at Curzon Mayfair.
Steven Soderbergh’s Black Bag had its UK special screening at Curzon Mayfair on Tuesday 11 March 2025, three days before it opened in British cinemas. Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender, who play a married pair of intelligence officers, led the cast.
Blanchett was born in Melbourne in 1969 and trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Art in Sydney. Shekhar Kapur’s Elizabeth made her name outside Australia in 1998. She has won two Academy Awards, for playing Katharine Hepburn in The Aviator and for Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine.
Soderbergh won the Palme d’Or at 26 with his first feature, sex, lies, and videotape, in 1989. He won the Academy Award for Best Director for Traffic in 2001, and he shot Black Bag himself, as he does most of his work.
The film sets a spy story inside a London marriage. Fassbender’s George Woodhouse learns that his wife Kathryn is one of five suspects in a security leak, and he invites the other four to dinner to find the traitor.
Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris, Marisa Abela and Tom Burke, who play the dinner guests, joined them on the carpet. Focus Features made the film.
