Sigourney Weaver led the cast of Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third film in James Cameron’s Pandora saga, at its UK premiere at the BFI IMAX in Waterloo.
Avatar: Fire and Ash came to London for its UK premiere at the BFI IMAX in Waterloo on Thursday 11 December 2025. The third chapter of James Cameron’s Pandora saga played on the largest cinema screen in Britain.
Sigourney Weaver led the cast on the carpet. Born in New York in 1949, the daughter of the NBC president Pat Weaver and the English actress Elizabeth Inglis, she read English at Stanford and trained at the Yale School of Drama. A walk-on in Annie Hall preceded Ellen Ripley in Alien in 1979, a role that redefined the screen heroine and brought her an Academy Award nomination when she returned to it in Aliens. In 1989 she became the first actor to win two Golden Globes for acting in the same year, for Gorillas in the Mist and Working Girl, and The Ice Storm later earned her a BAFTA.
She has belonged to Pandora since 2009, first as the scientist Grace Augustine and then as the young Na’vi Kiri. Fire and Ash, written by Cameron with Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, returns to Jake Sully, Neytiri and the Sully family.
Cameron appeared by live link on the screen to introduce his company on stage: Weaver, Oona Chaplin, Stephen Lang, David Thewlis, Jemaine Clement and Jamie Flatters, with the costume designer Deborah Scott and the composer Simon Franglen. The film opened across Britain on 19 December.
