Nine Greek artists working abroad showed together at the Hellenic Centre in a sculptural dialogue on displacement, memory and the state of standing between places.
Nine Greek artists who live and work outside Greece showed sculpture together at The Hellenic Centre in Marylebone from Wednesday 3 to Friday 26 June 2026. In Transit was built around the experience of standing between places.
The exhibition did not depict migration. The works enacted it, in shifting materials and unsettled forms that carried memory, displacement, humour and adaptation into their construction.
Sculpture stood in for what is hard to say in words: the weight of absence, the elasticity of identity and the work of belonging somewhere new. Humour sat beside vulnerability, and resilience beside doubt. None of the works reached for a resolution.
The nine artists were Irini Bachlitzanaki, Byron Kalomamas, Amanda Kyritsopoulou, Anna Lytridou, Theodoris Papandreopoulos, Eleni Papazoglou, Eleni Tomadaki, Costas Xanthis and Eleni Zervou. Each worked from a different point of the Greek diaspora.
Zervou made Cerberus Milk in 2023, and the work supplied the exhibition’s publicity image. It stood for a show about becoming rather than arriving.
The Hellenic Centre opened the exhibition with a reception on 3 June. Admission was free, and the show was open on weekdays from 11:00 to 17:00.
