THE PIG near Bath

Hunstrete House is a Grade II-listed Georgian house of Bath stone in the Mendip Hills, near the village of Hunstrete between Bath and Bristol. Robin Hutson's group bought it in 2013 and reopened it as THE PIG near Bath in March 2014, the third house in what is now a group of country hotels. It keeps 31 bedrooms between the main house and a set of garden rooms, stables and huts, with a 30-acre deer park and a herd of fallow deer beyond the lawns.

The kitchen cooks a 25-mile menu drawn from the largest walled Kitchen Garden in the group, with its own smokehouse, orchard and beehives. The restaurant is a conservatory at the heart of the house, and there are four sitting rooms, one of them holding a panelled bar, each with sofas in front of an open fire.

For private gatherings the house has three rooms. The Old Dining Room is the largest, a tall room with a chandelier, a carved fireplace and one long rustic table seating up to 22. The Billiard Room is oak-panelled and seats 16, and The Kitchen Table, a timber-clad room off the main restaurant, seats 12 and can open onto the restaurant floor. Guests can stay the night in the house.
