/ About

For decades this was Barnsley House, the Grade II-listed 17th-century house in the village of Barnsley, four miles from Cirencester, whose gardens were laid out by Rosemary Verey. THE PIG group reopened it as THE PIG in the Cotswolds in September 2024, keeping the house's character and adding its own lived-in style of rich fabrics, reclaimed pieces and log fires. Verey's Arts and Crafts gardens remain, with the laburnum walk, the knot garden, a Tuscan temple and a listed Gothick summerhouse, and the Fieldhouse spa sits among the trees beyond them.

The kitchen works to a 25-mile menu drawn from its own Kitchen Garden and small Cotswolds producers, served in a green-panelled restaurant that looks straight onto the formal gardens. The Village Pub across the road belongs to the house and adds six more bedrooms to its own.

Private gatherings run on an intimate scale. Rosemary's Hideaway, at the back of the house beside the ornamental gardens, has its own outdoor entrance, a lounge and a skylit private dining room around one long table. The Snug is a panelled lounge for smaller groups and team days, and the restaurant takes larger celebrations. The whole house can also be taken on an exclusive-use basis, weddings included.
