/ About
The Pem is the restaurant inside Conrad London St. James on Broadway, a few minutes from St James's Park. It takes its name from the suffragette Emily Wilding Davison, known to her family as Pem, and its feather emblem comes from her story. The room opened in July 2021 under Sally Abé, who left in March 2025, and on 17 September 2026 it passed to Romy Gill MBE. It is her first permanent restaurant kitchen in six years, since Romy's Kitchen in Thornbury.
Gill cooks regional Indian food across Punjab, Bengal, Kerala and Rajasthan, built on British produce and meant to be ordered generously and passed round the table. She calls the menu Neemat, a word for blessing and abundance. She blends many of the spices herself, buys from women-led suppliers where she can, and the wine list follows the same line with women-led producers. The dining room is deep red and blush pink: fluted red columns, long pink banquettes, a coffered ceiling and a black-and-white marble floor.
For a private party the house's answer is the Harben Room, tucked inside the restaurant behind a wall of glass-fronted wine cabinets and red velvet drapes. It seats 20 and is named for Henry Harben, a backer of the suffrage campaign. Set menus are offered, or Gill and her team will write one for the evening. The main dining room is taken by arrangement rather than sold as a published buyout.
