/ About

The Lanesborough stands at Hyde Park Corner in a Grade II* listed Regency building that began life as St George's Hospital, completed in 1844 to a design by William Wilkins, architect of the National Gallery. Since 2015 it has been run by Oetker Collection, reopened after a full restoration that returned the interiors to a richly English idea of grandeur: hand-painted ceilings, cut-crystal chandeliers, period artwork and tall windows that look out over the park and Wellington Arch.

For private events the hotel offers nine individually designed spaces rather than a single ballroom, most of them filled with daylight. The Belgravia is the largest of the formal rooms, a stately Regency setting immediately off the front hall and licensed for civil ceremonies. St George's mixes gold-leaf detailing with views of Wellington Arch, while The Westminster sits under a conservatory glass roof with delicate de Gournay wallcoverings. The Wellington, Westminster and Wilkins interconnect, allowing a dinner and reception to flow across adjoining rooms. Below ground, the original brick-vaulted wine cellar seats fourteen for the most intimate dinners.

The signature space is the hotel's own restaurant, a domed, glass-ceilinged Regency dining room hung with the building's largest chandelier and works by British artists. It can be taken exclusively, and the Great Hall, the historic entrance known as the Queen's Entrance, makes a natural backdrop for a reception alongside it. The rooms are enclosed, discreet and self-contained, which suits a private evening built around music as readily as a wedding or a launch.
