The Cocochine

The Cocochine occupies a four-storey townhouse on Bruton Place, the mews behind Berkeley Square. Chef Larry Jayasekara opened it in March 2024 with Hamiltons Gallery owner Tim Jefferies, and the building reads as a joint project: crimson leather, dark wood and original art on every floor. Much of the produce comes from Rowler Farm in Northamptonshire, with seafood from the waters off Tanera on the Scottish coast. The MICHELIN Guide lists it for modern French cooking with a Sri Lankan accent.

The plan gives a host four rooms and a different register on each floor. The ground-floor dining room seats 35 and can be booked whole. Seven seats at the first-floor chef's counter face the open kitchen across a curved leather bar. The second floor is the private dining suite: 16 covers under a five-metre coffered ceiling with two inset roof lights, an original fireplace, a lounge of sofas and armchairs, and its own kitchen and wine storage. Below all of it, the tiled cellar holds over 1,000 wines and champagnes and takes small tastings with the sommelier.

The art rotates. Works come from Hamiltons Gallery, so the walls of the private suite change between visits. The same attention runs through the fabric of the house: mirrored ceilings let the floor staff read a table without approaching it, and the lighting is set so no shadow falls across a plate. Tables are never turned. Private dining runs any day of the week, including the Sunday and Monday the restaurant itself is closed.
