The Cadogan, A Belmond Hotel

The Cadogan has stood on the corner of Sloane Street and Pont Street for well over a century, a red-brick Chelsea townhouse hotel woven into the social history of the neighbourhood. It is the address where Oscar Wilde was arrested in Room 118 and where Lillie Langtry once entertained, and Belmond has carried that lineage into the present with a careful restoration: a scallop-mosaic lobby floor, panelled drawing rooms, an extensive art collection, and 54 rooms and suites that feel more like a private home than a grand hotel.

For private events the hotel leans on its intimate scale rather than a ballroom. The Oscar and Lillie rooms, named for its two most famous former residents, adjoin to make a single light-filled space for up to 80 standing, with panelled walls, a bold modern canvas and a gold-and-cream patterned carpet; the Lillie Room can also be taken on its own and divided for smaller dinners. The ground-floor Drawing Room, bathed in daylight through tall arched windows and anchored by a built-in bar, opens onto the lobby for receptions, while the Oscar Suite and the top-floor Cadogan Penthouse offer characterful settings for the smallest private gatherings.

Guests also have rare access to Cadogan Place gardens, a private green a short walk from Sloane Square, ideal for alfresco drinks before an evening indoors.
